Creating opportunities for disadvantaged producers
How we apply thisWe focus on women and young people, because when they move forward, their communities move with them. They're the agents of change we build around.
Crafted with care
What's the most durable way to break a cycle of poverty? Give someone a job — and the power to decide what happens next. Not a one-off boost, but a stable income and, ideally, a business that stands on its own two feet over time, independent of donors.
We believe fair work and entrepreneurship create income, confidence, and choice — all at once. That combination lets families invest in what matters most to them, in the ways they know best. Progress feels different when you build it with your own hands. And it tends to last longer, too.
"The products we make aren't the end goal. They're the means — a way to create real, lasting opportunity for the women we work with, many of whom come from disadvantaged backgrounds."
Crafts By Solid

Our Peruvian production unit has held WFTO certification since 2017. In December 2023, Solid Crafts as a whole took over the certification as an umbrella organisation — bringing the label closer to our clients and covering all of our products under one certification. Reevaluating after a couple of years, it makes sense to us that our production units themselves carry the certification directly — and it's what we see our clients value most. So both our Peru and Kenya units will hold WFTO certification in their own right, bringing transparency, accountability, and fair trade right to the source.
Crafts by Solid's WFTO certification also benefits our clients and partners. Any entity for whom we produce, whether through tailormade or white label arrangements, has the option to display the WFTO First Buyer label on their products. By choosing to display the label, they demonstrate their dedication to supporting fair trade and promoting positive social and environmental impact.

We try to be as transparent as we can about how we work. Our sustainability report tracks our footprint and our social impact — and we hold ourselves to it, even when that's uncomfortable.
Treating people fairly and paying an honest price isn't a marketing angle for us. It's just logical — the baseline we start from, not a bonus we add on.
Every producer we work with is an adult woman. Early on, we hoped to offer direct employment to teenage mothers who had no other income — but putting minors on the production floor isn't compatible with the standards our international clients rightly expect. So today we work exclusively with adult women, and we think carefully about how to support younger mothers through other means.
To us, a business is more than its output. Every person is known by name, and valued as one — personal development is woven into how we work, not bolted on. Fair pay and respect for local living wages aren't the finish line for us. They're where we start.

Removing barriers matters as much as creating opportunity. Real change takes more than a job, and more than help — it takes both: work and training that open doors, and support that clears the path.
These ten Fair Trade principles aren't a checklist for us — they're how we work, day to day. And we want to see fair trade become the standard, not the exception.
We choose natural or recycled materials that fit the resources and traditions of each place we produce. Because we produce by hand, we create more employment while keeping our footprint small. Handcraft uses less energy, creates less waste, and lets the skill of our artisans show.
Want the full picture? Our latest sustainability report covers how these principles show up across our entire supply chain — honestly, there's enough to fill a book.
